Snow Queen Trophy

The Snow Queen Trophyis a ski slalom race that is organized every year on the Red slope , ski track on Mount Medvednica above Zagreb, organized by the Croatian Ski Association. The start is at 985 meters above sea level, and the finish at 785 meters. The first race was held in 2005 when it was called "Golden Bear", but the following year the race changed its name to "Snow Queen" in honor of the best Croatian skier Janica Kostelić . In the beginning, the Snow Queen was an exclusively women's race, but since 2008, a men's race has also been introduced. Over the years, the Snow Queen gained more and more popularity both among the audience and visitors, as well as among the world's best slalom skiers. In 2013, the Snow Queen was included in Club 5 Ski Classics , an association of FIS World Cup race organizers. Thus, the Snow Queen found itself side by side with other FIS World Cup races, such as the race of Garmisch Partenkirchen, Wengen, Val Gardena, etc.

The winners of this race are crowned with a crystal crown engraved with their name and are awarded the titles of snow queen and snow king. In addition, the winners also receive a mantle and sit on the throne just like real queens and kings and receive a cash prize. Skiers who have been crowned snow queens four times are the Austrian Marlies Schild , who has one silver and one bronze medal along with the crown, and the American Mikaela Shiffrin , who won two more silver medals. Slovak Petra Vlhová was crowned the snow queen three times and won the silver medal twice. The most successful Croatian skier in this race was Ana Jelušić , who won the silver medal in 2007, and Janica Kostelić , who won the bronze medal in 2006. In the men's race, Marcel Hirscher has been the most successful so far, having won the title of snow king as many as five times, and Croatian skier Ivica Kostelić won the silver medal three times.
