Trakoscan Castle

Trakoscan Castle is positioned in the northwestern part of Hrvatsko zagorje between Macelj, Ravna gora and Strahinjcica. It was built in 13th century as a smaller fort to control the pass from Ptuj to the Bednja valley. Since 1584. until the beginning of the World War II it was held by the Draskovic family and its present form was given in the 19th century. Today the castle is in possession of Republic of Croatia and hosts a museum on four levels with permanent exhibition.

The castle Marusevec is located in the village of the same name, in the county of Varazdin.The name's origin goes back into remote times when, according to legend, Marusa, a Chech lady, settled here and established residence. The website of Croatian castles and manors originated within the framework of the European INTERREG IIIB CADSES project Villas, stately homes and castles – compatible use, valorisation and creative management. Its aim is to promote Croatian castle heritage. Leader of the Croatian part of the Villas project is Faculty of Architecture of the University of Zagreb in cooperation with the Fund for Regional Development of the Republic of Croatia, Krapina-Zagorje County, Varaždin County, Požega-Slavonia County and Koprivnica-Križevci County.
