Trakoscan Castle is positioned in the northwestern part of Hrvatsko zagorje between Macelj, Ravna gora and Strahinjcica. It was built in 13th century as a smaller fort to control the pass from Ptuj to the Bednja valley. Since 1584. until the beginning of the World War II it was held by the Draskovic family and its present form was given in the 19th century. Today the castle is in possession of Republic of Croatia and hosts a museum on four levels with permanent exhibition.
