Museum activities are carried out by museums as institutions and museums, galleries and collections within institutions and other legal entities, as well as by the gallery as an institution if they have museum artefacts.
Museum activities include: collection, preservation and research of civilization, cultural and natural assets and their professional and scientific processing and systematization in collections, permanent protection of museum materials, museum documentation, museum sites and sites, their direct and indirect public presentation through permanent and occasional exhibitions , and publishing information and knowledge about museum material and museum documentation through professional, scientific and other information resources.
Museums as public institutions can be founded by the Republic of Croatia, counties, cities and municipalities. Museums as institutions can be founded by domestic legal and physical persons.
