Croatia as a host

Croatia Open Umag (Blue Lagoon Croatia Open Umag) is a tennis tournament from the ATP World Tour 250 series. It has been held continuously since 1990. The tournament is held in the tourist resort Stella Maris built by architect Marijan Videc. The five-time winner of the tournament is Carlos Moya and Thomas Muster, who won the tournament three times, carry the title of Honorary Citizens of Umag. In 1993, the tournament was awarded with the State Award for Sports "Franjo Bučar" and the ATP organization awarded it five times with a special Award for Excellence.

The Snow Queen Trophy is the women's slalom race of the World Ski Cup, which has been traditionally held in Croatia since 2005 on Sljeme. The name refers to victories of Janica Kostelić, and before her success the race was called the Golden Bear. The race is highlighted by the highest prize pool in the Women's World Cup races, due to the number of visitors in the early stages of this trophy, which was manually created with a crystal crown carrying a winning name. In addition to Janica Kostelić, winning silver in 2007, Ana Jelušić stands out as the second Croatian winning the medal.

Croatia hosted the 2000 European Handball Championship held from January 21st to 30th in Zagreb and Rijeka. Twelve teams participated in the championship and the winner was Sweden. In 2018 Croatia again hosted such a championship held from 12 to 28 January in Zagreb, Split, Varaždin and Poreč, where the Spanish team fought the other 16 teams and won the gold.

The European Water Polo Championship 2010 was held in Zagreb from 29 August to 11 September at the Mladost Sports Park. Of the 12 teams and 44 matches, the Croatian and Italian teams went to the finals where Croatia won the gold. Croatia was chosen to be the host of the European Championships in 2022.

The 2009 World Handball Championship was held in Croatia in Split, Pula, Osijek, Varaždin, Zadar, Poreč and Zagreb from 16 January to 1 February. The Croatian national team lost the finals from France in this competition, winning the silver medal.
